Water Beads

 
 
We added water to the beads.
 
Observations made by the students:
 
Alyssia: "Theyare gooey and squishy."
Camille: "They are squishy and round."
Saanvi: "They are slippery and when you squeeze them, they brake."
Talia: "Some of them broke."
Antonio: "I think they are going to go small. It makes stuff look bigger."
Badri: "It look like water and balls. It is squishy, bouncy and really fast."
Sean: "It looks like a brake ball."
James: "They are really squishy. It get squishy when wet."
Heather: "They are jelly."
Alessa: "They're kind of squishy."
Alyssia: "They feel like jelly."
Isabella: "They are light and they can grow. They are delicate. If you step on them, they are going to brake."
Sofia: "They are really big."
Naomi: "They are bigger than the other. If you put them in the water, they get bigger. It fee like kind of wet after."
Tammy: "cold and soft."
Olivia: "They gre bigger."
Talia: When you put them in the water I think they are going to go bigger. They are so they can suck up the water."
Gerril: "It is really wet. I like it because it is soft."
Koren: "They are very very squishy. They are wet too."
Sean: "They are brake balls. Me and Antonio feel them and it is like braking."

* They look like beattles and they will drown in water.

Life Cycle of the Butterfly

After many days of rain, we finally got a warm day to release our butterflies.

Growing Wheat Grass

 
 
Children are using their Five Senses to explore the wheat grass.
 

Dry:
 
 - Looks like birdseed or beads. (Jacob)
- Small and cold. (Keira)
- Seeds are brown and hard. (Annamaria)
- Some are white and oval. (Alexandra)
- Tiny seeds. (Saanvi)
- They are made from wheat and smell like a pumpkin. (Naomi)
- It is seeds and they are brown. (Sean)

- They feel soft and are light brown. (James)
- The tips hurt your fingers, they are a little bit hard. (Camille)

Train

Heather discovered that the train measures 8 eggs.




   Train Tickets: The students made train tickets and left Ottawa for Forida, the ocean or other wonderful destinations.



Castle



Lucas wanted to learn to build a castle. He wanted to make a round castle. First, we used tubes and tape to make the base. The students added walls, a drawbridge, a door and a throne. Finally, they dressed up as prince,  princess or a knight and made jewellery and crowns to complete their costums.

French words that were used in this project: le château, les murs, le pont-levis, la douve, la porte, le trône, le prince, la princesse, le dragon.


Science Discoveries

We put food coloring in water and then the jars were put in the sun. The students made observations of what they observed. Here are their observations.


Chiara: It leaks.
Mme Maklin: Where did it leak?
Chiara: It was raining and then it turned down and then it was down.

Siena: The water went lower?
Mme Maklin: Why?
Siena: Because...

Luca M.: The water went lower.
Mrs Banks: Why?
Luca M.: Because of the sun.

Christopher: The colors are darker. First the colors were lighter then it went darker.

Summer: The water melted from the sun. The water is getting lower and it's going away slow, slow, slow! The sun gets in it.
 
Naomi:  Last time there was a little more and this time there is less. There is less water.
 
 
Antonio: The water evaporated.
 
 
Adam: There was more water.
Mme Maklin: What happened?
Adam: It went to the ground to make plants grow.
 
 
Making connections
 
Sofia: Orange makes me think of the Little People Kitty.
 
Olivia: Blue makes me think of the magnifying glass.
 
Talia: Red reminds me of red jello.
 
Heather: Green reminds me of the grass outside.
 
Naomi: All the colours remind me of the jars and the rainbow.
 
Alyssia: If you mix the blue colour you can make green. It reminds me of water.
 
Isabella: The blue makes me think of the blue tables in our room.
 
Antonio: Blue reminds me of my mom`s bed and my dad`s football  team.
 
James: The red reminds me of the story Apple Trouble in Mrs. VanWesterop`s class.
