Pokemon

We found out that many of our students are experts of Pokemon. They sorted Pokemons by their elements, such as water, fire, electricity, grass, dinosaur and rock. They built homes for their Pokemons and spent time playing with the many figurines.

Devin is building a home for the Pokemons.

Adam sorted the electric Pokemons

Luca M. sorted the fire Pokemons.

Tara sorted the water Pokemons.

Luca S. sorted the grass Pokemons.

Antonio, Badri and James sorted Pokemons.

Zoo

The students are also learning about zoo animals. Some of our friends turned the house into a zoo, others built zoos with blocks. They are learning to take good care of the animals that live in their zoo.

Fashion Weeks

During our two weeks on fashion, the students learned to walk the line as fashion models. Then, they decided to use the stage to perform dances and songs.

The students did a collage of pictures representing today`s fashion.

Science

The students are encouraged to explore their environment and share what they find in nature. Mme Maklin brought in a nest and students brought in flowers, leaves, pieces of an old tree to share their observation. The nest started a discussion about birds. Here is what Badri, James, Camille, Koren, Alessa, Saanvi, Aysha have to say (in French).

Measuring and Comparing the Length and Height of Block Structures

Devin and Luca M. built structures using blocks. They estimated that Devin`s structure was higher. After using blocks to measure both structures, they discovered that Devin`s structure was taller.

Annamaria and Alexandra built a structure. They both estimated that it would take 100 cubes to measure the length of their structure. They had fun practising counting the cubes.

We challenged James, Badri, Antonio and Sean to build the tallest structure that they could using the foam blocks. Sean`s structure kept falling down so James and Antonio suggested that he build a base first. James used his body to measure the height of the structures. They discovered that Antonio had built the tallest structure.

All about bees:

During our inquiry on flowers, Quinn asked the question "How do bees make honey?" Adam and Tara shared with their peers what they knew about bees. We also read books to help the students gain more information about bees.

Here are what Adam, Tara, Christopher, Jevon and Siena talking about bees. Click the link below.

I Can be a Scientist workshop

Children had lots of fun at our science worshop. Here is a graph that we created together on the Smart Board to represent students' favourite centres. We discovered that more students enjoyed the Paleontologist centre, and less students enjoyed the Float and Sink centre, the same number of students enjoyed the Meterologist and Weather centres.

For the last couple weeks, we have been learning about different cultures. In Visual Arts, the students have used water colors to decorate Japanese fans, they have used sand to create First Nations Arts and they have made a rain sticks used by the Aztecs. The Aztecs live in Mexico and used to play their rain sticks to bring about rainstorms. Here are examples of students work of Arts. You can also listen to the students as they play their rain sticks. We had lost of fun trying to recreate different rain sounds that we`ve explored on Youtube.

Siena wanted to go swimming in a pool with her friends. Josie Ann wanted to paint the carboard blue but Siena said it would take too long to dry so she decided that it would be better to use construction paper. She made a pool with her friends Gabriela, Chiara, Josie Ann, Fabiana and Summer.
